First, it was hundreds of jobs.

Now, most of the equipment inside GM’s Spring Hill Assembly Plant could be on its way to Michigan, too.

A plant newsletter, just released Friday night, spells out details of a plan to move equipment from the idled Spring Hill facility to a plant in Lake Orion, Mich.

According to the newsletter, international union leaders, working with General Motors, have agreed to move equipment as a way of cutting costs. The plan apparently includes body systems, paint shot and general assembly equipment.

Local union leaders will meet with the international union Tuesday to learn specifics of the plan. According to the newsletter, relocation of the machinery will begin in January 2010.

"You know, you ask a lot of questions, but everyone’s in the dark," said a Spring Hill Assembly worker, who asked to maintain his anonymity. "But what else can you do in this world? You’ve got to hope for the best, but expect the worst."

Local union leaders were unavailable for comment Saturday.
