WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 276,000 vehicles built for the 2005-07 model years, including some high-profile sports cars, to replace pinion seals.
GM told federal regulators the seals do not meet specifications and can allow fluid leaks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had started to investigate complaints of rear differential failure in some Cadillacs, possibly leading to loss of power and loss of control. There are reports of at least one crash and one injury related to the problem.
Vehicles covered by the recalls are: 2005-07 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, SRX, STS and STS-V; 2006-07 Pontiac Solstice; and 2007 Saturn Sky. Most are rear-wheel-drive vehicles, but the recall also involves front axles in all-wheel-drive STS and SRX models, GM said. Owners will be notified in February, the company told NHTSA.
